TimeTo
Executive Summary:
The main idea behind Timeto an app for procrastors to help keep track of how much time they have. As the Research Report Integration my job is to present the information in way that is clear and easy to understand. Our team was made of 5 people Including myself there Marconi Douetts, Juan Kinshasa, Nigel Jordan, and Spencer Gillam. The team spent 15 weeks working on this app and during the weeks we got a better understand of our demographic using User Research interviews, primary and secondary persona, and modeling the app.
Introduction:
When we got into our team we had a brief idea of where we where going to start because all we knew is that the app idea fell into the category of productivity. So what we did was to write out our ideas and them put them into what was possible to within 15 weeks and if it match what our what the theme of app was going for. The team lead Marconi had already decided that the theme app the was going to help the users keep track of how much time they have let before an assignment or project was due. This help us narrow down our demographic to High-school and College students because our idea at the time was that they still trying to develop ways to keep track of their work . As we got further into the project our initial idea change when we got Research phase, was able to talk to users and a Subject Matter Expert, and the Molding phase. This help us to shape the prototype of our app to what is now.
Research Phase:
We didn't have a Kick-off meeting because this school project so, we had to be do work-sheet do emulate what would if we had Kick-off meeting.During the kickoff meeting the design team learned that the current state of the productivity tool domain has focused primarily on catering to the needs of well-organized and highly productive users. To address this market opportunity, stakeholders introduced the project titled Timeto. This mobile app initiative is expected to be a task management and productivity tool aimed at helping procrastinators accomplish their goals. When we got to the Research Phase we divided it up into 3 main section; Competitive Audit,Lit Review and User Interviews. It make it easy for us to find information. For Competitive Audit we took a look at 7 different productivity apps to see how it help users keep track of task, how their on-boarding works, and how effective it is. While test the apps we find out that they most of them cater to people who already have thing plan out or people who are tying to change their habits. Making TimeTo a niche within the market. For our Lit review we want to get a better understanding on why people procrastinate So, we looked in to psychology of why people procrastinate. It turn out that people get overwhelmed with how to go about the task and just put it of until the day before the it's due. When talking to our Subject Matter Expert Dr. Tomita she reiterates how stress play a big part in how gauge the task them are given. This was also reflected when we were charting out the interviewees. This effect how we went about modeling the app
Modeling Phase:
When we got to the modeling phase we as decided to have Two persona a primary and secondary. What a persona is an aspect of character perceived by other people, but in this case it use to show what our user would do if they used this app. We made Josh and Amy .they are both student which ties back to are main demographic Josh is the secondary mean that his need are still be meet but Amy is are main user. She late turning in her work and doesn't want to change her habits. When compare Josh who is on top of his assignment and values his time more than anything. Our two persona are based off what we learned from our research phase. This help us shape what user need in the app because the user want to see how much time they have left without it bothering them. Basically out sight less worry on your mind.
Requirements:
So when we were trying to decide what we were going to put in our app we made a list of ideas we had and narrow it down into two list of 7 thing that we need to have both for our Primary user and general requirement. The main goal of the app is to cater to procrastinators and not force them to change their habits unless they want to. That what help shape what our requirements were. The highlighted and line though some of them was to help us keep track of who did what and if it was already done. We decided that On-boarding was the 1st thing under general because if our user can't figure out how to do the main feature of our app than they will drop it with out giving it a chance. We also decided to have a graph showing how much time you have to do an assignment or task. It help visualize how much time the user has left. We also decided to have a feature where users can add sub task to help them to mange their time better. We also start to work on what the framework was going to look like in the picture below.
FrameWork:
Down below in the gallery is some of the framework and the prototype that the team work on. The on-barding is also in the gallery to show how the app look when first logging into it and to help users figure out how to set up task reminders. The wireframe is important because it show how we thought about the key path scenario and other branches the user could take. It also help us figure out where to put certain features at in. the app. Most of the features that we decide on made it into the process of the prototype. My part was to add sub task menu when making task. My frame work is in the gallery below. Due to how much time we had, we were unable to have someone test the responsiveness of the app on a phone.
Conclusion:
TimeTo is an app design to help procrastinators keep track of how much free time they have. Due to this project I also learned a lot about why people procrastinate and how it effect them mentally because it applies to me too. If I was not on this team design this app, I believe I would use this app to help me keep track of my task. This also made me realize that I not as strong working with Figma as I though I was because Marconi did most of the coding, but that a skill that I can impove overtime. I do wish we had more time to fully hash out some of the features. It basic and it work which is fine because it a school project. I know one thing we really want to add was a way to see all the complete task that a person done. It was suppose to help them be motivated in finishing the new task up. I also known we want to add a reward system but we didn't have the time.
